Brief

As with many aspects of UK living, the weather plays a big part in the progress of building projects, often dictating how and when particular parts of the build can be completed – and that was most certainly the case for this project in Hampshire!

Our client wanted to convert and extend their house from two to three bedrooms, to include a large master with en-suite, increase the size of their kitchen and add a large downstairs living room, utility room, cloakroom and porch – a huge transformation project that they had been dreaming of for many years.

Build

With the client’s plans in place and lots of ideas on how they could creat an open plan ground floor space with lots of natural light, we set about putting them in place. To create the wraparound ground floor extension, we had to install a number of steel beams, a challenging part of the build that was made all the trickier by freak weather conditions that saw our team battling the rain, wind, sleet and snow over many days! A series of interesting flat roof lanterns were selected to allow light to stream into the ground floor extension, along with bi-fold doors that opened the space out into the garden. To maximise the available floor space for furniture, we installed underfloor heating throughout the downstairs living area, negating the need for radiators in certain sections and allowing for better energy efficiency.

Result

We were delighted with the result of the build – a truly transformational home improvement project that has changed the lives of our client. By adding the additional first floor master bedroom and en-suite, the family have been able to utilise the third bedroom as a home office and exercise space. The huge new open plan kitchen, dining and family living space is a revitalised area for entertaining family and friends, flooded by the natural light from the sky lanterns and bi-fold doors – and with the addition of the utility room, the client has been able to move appliances out of the kitchen to create a cleaner, less cluttered space. It’s extremely satisfying to complete such a big project, through adverse conditions, that impacts client’s lives so positively.
